WELLI WILLOW WHACKER

  • DateMay 14, 2026

So I arrived at a very busy lake late mid afternoon on Friday. After speaking to another member on route I was aware the swim I had a few fish from a couple weeks back had become vacant and had done few fish for that angler. With the lake being busy and knowing a couple were pulling off Saturday I thought it’s a good place to start for the night.

So I loaded up,headed off through the park in that direction.

Not going to lie here …I had a mare getting my first rod out. I fished the same areas as before but this time i snagged a branch as the leads hit the water. Luckily a mate David was in a swim behind me he kindly held the rod high so I could wade in the other side with my weighing hook, get the branch and all my end tackle back. After that commotion all three rods went out for the night lovely …thinking I’ve probably ruined my chances of one tonight but it’s good for a morning bite in here.

After a chilly and very quiet I was joined by Chubby for an early morning brew.

Chubby went off and soon come back saying he just seen one are you going to move …..after a quick think the rods were in and bivvy moved. Let the previous angler finish up before sorting my rods out while in the meantime seeing a few more shows.

The first two rods went out with fresh creamstacios, flicked out 25/30 yrds with a couple pouches of STP over the top. The third rod I tied up a naked chod quick using platinum stiff link material, platinum chod hook and platinum terminal gear. On this was a yellow peril and set to sink slowly as there was some new weed growth about. This was flicked out 20yards to my left and again a few pouches of STP over the top. Set the rod,put the catapult in the bucket and sat back.

Wasn’t long before I had a liner and next think that rod was away …..after short tussle it was in the net. With a helping hand from Chubby we soon realised what fish it was, target achieved and PB smashed !!!
